“Shareholder mailings are expensive to produce, often aren’t read, and create some 290 million tons of landfill waste per year,” said Symposium Director Steve Weissman. “Given the current state of the economy and the heightened state of environmental awareness, these realities are forcing issuers to take notice and take action, and the Symposium is designed to speed them on their way.”
Symposium participants will learn proven methods for determining whether, when, and how to reduce printing, and how to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of the remaining mailings. In addition, significant attention will be paid to techniques for improving investors’ online experience and overviews of beneficial technical advances.
To foster meaningful discussion and to facilitate deep-dives into specific issues, coverage at SCS09 will be focused on three core concerns: reducing costs, understanding regulations, and achieving sustainability. Illuminating the new landscape as it is emerging following numerous recent SEC initiatives, keynote speaker William Lutz, himself the former Deputy Director of the SEC's Office of Interactive Disclosure, will speak on "The Coming Revolution in Shareholder Communications."
